PHOENIX - The mother of 21-year-old Jasmine Rain Dunbar is making a desperate plea for her safe return after Phoenix Police Department detectives say her baby girl was found abandoned Tuesday night.
"Where is my daughter?," Tonya Smith said, the mother of Jasmine. "She wouldn't leave her baby. Where is she?"
According to Phoenix police, Dunbar and her infant child were last seen leaving a home in the area of 51st Avenue and Thomas Road Tuesday night around 9 p.m. They were accompanied by a man police say Dunbar knows. Detectives say the man is cooperating with police and the investigation.
According to Smith, her daughter and the man know each other, but couldn't elaborate on what kind of relationship the two had.
Dunbar's baby was found abandoned about six miles away near 83rd and Minnezona avenues, police said. Smith said the woman's wallet, backpack, one shoe and the child's birth certificate were also left behind.
"I have a whole bunch of concerns about (him being) the last person with my daughter," Smith said. "Where is my daughter at? Be honest."
Dunbar is described as 5-foot-6, 145 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information regarding Dunbar's whereabouts is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-534-2121 or through email at Stuart.Somershoe@Phoenix.gov.
