United Fantasy Flight

At 7:00 AM, Friday, December 5th, 2016 United Airlines flew it’s 21st Fantasy Flight for well deserving children in Arizona. Many of this Kindergarten and 1st graders live in poverty and/or are homeless.

This year’s flight had over 120 elementary children from Concordia Elementary Charter School, Meza Arts Academy and the LaMesita Homeless Shelter. The children were invited to board a once in a lifetime Fantasy Flight to the North Pole.

After about a 20-30 minute flight, the plane returned to a separate gate decorated as “Santa’s Winter Wonderland”. The students were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, several Arizona State University student athletes, the Phoenix Police and K-9 Unit and the Phoenix Fire Department.

The children enjoyed games, food, drinks, face painting, and many other child friendly activities while they stayed at the North Pole. Each child received a special bag that included toys, blankets, shoes, socks, gloves and toiletries.

The Phoenix Fantasy Flight was originated by Captain Bob Miller, Rich Vehring, retired Phoenix City Manager, and Debbie Schulte, PHX customer service agent. Each year the retirees, along with United Airlines employees, pilots, and flight attendants hold several fundraisers to raise money for the students each year.
