Phoenix hits 96 degrees, sets new March 20 record

Tuesday cool down in the 80s.

Phoenix has set a new high for March 20, hitting 96 degrees on the first day of spring.

The previous record for the day was 95 degrees in 2004.

We've been seeing record heat all weekend, but we should see a cool down later this week as the high-pressure system moves out of the state.

FORECAST: Our 7-day outlook

Storms are expected in the Phoenix area and across the state Wednesday and Thursday. While they won't bring much precipitation, temperatures are expected to decrease significantly.

Highs for Thursday and Friday are in the 70s in Phoenix, and Flagstaff could see some snow and highs in the 40s and 50s this week.
