If you live in the Valley, you're no stranger to heat. But you've probably heard people say things about heat that aren't actually true.
As we all adjust to the hot summer temps, here's a look at some of the most common heat myths and why they aren't true.
Myth No. 1: Heat isn't that dangerous
Wrong! Heat is the top weather-related killer -- more than flooding, hurricanes, and lightning combined.
Myth No. 2: You can't get sunburned when it's cloudy
Actually, about 80 percent of UV rays shine through when it's cloudy.
Myth No. 3: You burn more calories in warm weather
You will sweat more, but you won't burn more calories. You body burns more calories when its cold out. It has to work harder to keep your core temperature up.
Myth No. 4: There's no such thing as a "dry heat"
In fact, humidity makes those "feels like" temperatures so much hotter. For example, if the temp is 110 degrees and humidity is 30 percent, the heat index is 122 degrees.
Myth No. 5: A/C makes you catch colds
A dry, cool environment during the summer can dry out your nasal passage and make it more susceptible to infection, but the actual air conditioner isn't to blame.
