Weekend traffic: Few restrictions for Valley drivers this weekend

Commuters will deal with a few restrictions on the I-17 and Grand Avenue this weekend.

The I-17 southbound is narrowed to two lanes near 7th Avenue for bridge work, Friday 9 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. This restriction takes place for overhead sign work in that area of the freeway. Please drive with caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through the work zone.

7th Avenue is closed in both directions at the I-17 for bridge work, Friday 9 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. Alternate routes while 7th Avenue is closed include Central Avenue, 19th Avenue or 7th Street.

If you are heading out to the APS Electric Light Parade on Saturday at 7 p.m. and coming from south of the I-17, you’ll want to consider using 7th Street or Central Avenue while 7th Avenue is closed.

Grand Avenue will close intermittently near milepost 126 (northwest of Center Street) in the Wittmann area Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday for APS overhead power line installation. Expect intermittent closures of up to 15 minutes. Please allow extra travel time and drive with caution. Law enforcement officers in the area will stop traffic as needed for the power line work.

A reminder that the intersection of 59th and Southern avenues is closed now until March of 2018. This closure takes place due to the South Mountain Freeway Construction. Some alternate roads to consider are Broadway or Baseline between 51st and 67th avenues
