Northbound I-17 at Indian School Road reopened after fatal crash

ADOT said the I-17 northbound near Indian School Road was closed for six hours due to a fatal crash on Sunday.

PHOENIX – Interstate 17 northbound was closed for six hours Sunday following a fatal single-vehicle crash at Indian School Road, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The passenger of the car was ejected after the driver lost control and crashed into a wall, according to Phoenix police.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a car crashed into the wall on the I-17 just south of Camelback Road early Sunday morning.

The victim who died is 24-year-old Verennice Mastache, according to Phoenix PD.

The suspect, 24-year-old Jaime Muro tried to run from the scene, but officers took him into custody in a nearby neighborhood.

Police believe impairment was a factor.

ADOT first announced the closure around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Around noon Sunday, ADOT tweeted that the interstate was no longer closed.
