Man killed in Flagstaff crash after stealing ADOT truck

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A man driving a stolen Arizona Department of Transportation truck has died after colliding with a tractor-trailer rig in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff police say the collision occurred about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. 89 and Country Club Drive and closed the highway for eight hours.

The name of the Flagstaff-area man who died is being withheld until his relatives can be notified.

Police say the ADOT truck was being loaded when the man stole it from a lot and drove away at a high speed.

They say the truck sideswiped a passenger vehicle stopped at a red light and later smashed into the trailer of the big rig.

Police say the driver of the stolen ADOT truck didn't slow down or attempt to stop.

He was declared dead at the scene.
