AVONDALE, Ariz. – NASCAR races back to the Valley this weekend for the Can-Am 500 at the Phoenix Raceway.
It’s the second to last race of the season for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the last Valley race for fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The race around the one-mile tri-oval will decide who’ll get the fourth and final spot to compete for the series championship at the Ford EcoBoost 400 in Homestead, Florida on November 19. Kyle Bush, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. have all locked up championship spots.
Brad Keselowski is currently holding the fourth spot and 19 points over Denny Hamlin, who may have to win the race to secure a championship spot. Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson – who’s chasing his eight NASCAR championship – all have to win to secure the final spot.
Earnhardt Jr. is out of the championship race, but will have thousands of fans cheering for his 88 Chevrolet. He’s retired from racing after this season and accumulating 26 wins, two of which were at the Daytona 500.
