Drew Stanton ready for Thursday night start

TEMPE, Ariz. - Carson Palmer didn't make the trip to San Francisco and won't play against the 49ers as he recovers from a concussion.

Insert Drew Stanton at quarterback.

Stanton started eight games for the Cardinals back in 2014, after Arizona lost Carson Palmer to injury. He went 5-3 and threw seven touchdowns and five interceptions

Turnovers have been an issue for the Cardinals this season, and Stanton threw two interceptions in relief of Palmer last Sunday against the L.A. Rams.

He's shaken that off though and is ready for Thursday's start against the 49ers.

"I think that's why I'm here, to fulfill these kind of opportunities, if it presents itself," said Staton earlier this week.

"I think on a short week especially, it's so much about communication. Like I said, I'd be doing that anyway, standing back and talking with Carson (Palmer). Being able to relay to the wide receivers what we're thinking versus specific coverages and stuff," said Stanton.

Stanton says he's mentally prepared.

"My main focus if my number is called is to go out and find a way to help this team win a football game," Stanton said.

And Cardinals fans hope he can do just that, as Arizona looks to avoid a 1-4 start.
