Bruce Arians underwent post-season cancer surgery, according to new book

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians' new book revealed his cancer diagnosis and road to recovery.

If the disappointing season and health scare in San Diego wasn’t enough for Bruce Arians in 2016, the Arizona Cardinal’s head coach had something more severe to deal with at the beginning of the off-season.

Arians underwent surgery to remove a portion of his kidney, according to his new book The Quarterback Whisperer: How to Build an Elite NFL Quarterback.

In the book, Cardinals’ writer Darren Urban said in a blog post, Arians talks about how he was out to dinner with his wife when he received a call from his doctor. An ultrasound had revealed spots on his kidney, renal cell carcinoma, Urban writes.

That was mid-season. Arians would wait until the season was over before undergoing the successful surgery.

According to Urban, Arians wrote he feels “great” and is being told he’s cancer-free. He says he’s ready for “at least one more season of NFL football—maybe more.”
