Chandler impresses with big win over Brophy Prep

No. 2 Chandler skips past the No. 6 Brophy Broncos 56-7.

The Chandler football team’s offense has been running at full speed the last five weeks and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Wolves scored 49 unanswered points in the first half and cruised to a 56-7 victory over Brophy Prep in Friday’s 6A showdown at home.

The win marked Chandler’s fifth in a row. The offense has scored 273 points in that span.

“They’re getting better and better,” Chandler coach Shaun Aguano said. “We’re going to be pretty hard to stop.”

The Wolves wasted no time finding the end zone Friday, scoring on their first drive of the game on a 65-yard pass from Jacob Conover to TJ Green. The early score would set the tone for what was to come.

“That’s what we planned on doing and it worked out,” Green said.

Chandler scored five touchdowns in the first quarter, sharing the ball among an electric group of skill players.

Conover threw for nearly 400 yards with three touchdowns in the first half alone. Ryan Johnson and Johnny Johnson both had two touchdowns each.

“We definitely have a lot of weapons and we have to use all of them,” Green said.

Chandler’s defense got in on the scoring in the second half when Bryce Jackson intercepted a pass by Matt Ryan and ran it 43 yards the other way for a touchdown.

The Wolves held Brophy scoreless for three quarters before the Broncos finally got on the board with a one-yard run by Ross Velez.

“We practice hard in practice so our defense is competitive,” Green said. “It transfers over.”

Chandler improves to 7-2 on the season and faces rival Hamilton next week in another big divisional contest. Brophy, which started the season at 7-0, has lost its last three games in a row.
