Beat the heat and stay cool with these activities

When should you be worried if your children aren't safe from the heat on the playground.

Summer may not officially start until June 21, but the heat is definitely making an early appearance in the Valley of the Sun.

Temperatures are already flirting with the 110-degree mark and there's no rain in sight.

So how can you stay cool during Phoenix's sweltering summer months? With these cool summer activities.

Head to the movies

Summer movie season is in full swing and there's plenty of films to check out.

With movies like "Wonder Woman" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," and upcoming blockbusters like "Spider-Man" and "Transformers," there will be plenty to watch.

Visit a museum

From the Phoenix Art Museum to the Music Instrument Museum, you can learn about anything from paintings to pianos while beating the heat.

Between the two locations, there are plenty of exhibits to keep you entertained for the whole afternoon.

Catch some waves

If you want to spend some time at the pool to help cool off, there are several water parks in the Valley. Some of the popular parks include Big Surf, Sunsplash and Wet 'n' Wild.

An afternoon at the wave pool with friends and family sounds like a perfect way to spend a summer day.

Go skating

What better way to stay cool than ice skating? Locations like the Ice Den and AZ Ice give residents a chance to avoid the heat with some time on the ice.

If roller skates or blades are more your speed, try spending an afternoon at roller rinks like Great Skate and the Rollero Family Roller Skating Center.

Binge watch your favorite shows

Staying indoors at home is another good way to beat the triple-digit temps. If you're a Netflix or Hulu subscriber, the summer is a great time to catch up on your favorite shows and binge watch previous seasons.
