Yavapai County sends out 2,500 ballots with wrong election date

The correct date to mail-in your early ballot is November 8, 2016 - mail it as early as you can.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. - Yavapai County elections officials confirmed Tuesday they mailed out 2,500 early ballots to voters with a "return by" date of November 18, 10 days after Election Day.

County recorder's office employees who sort the mail before taking it to the post office missed the incorrect date on the ballot envelopes, said Leslie Hoffman election recorder for Yavapai County.

Social media lit up Tuesday with images of the envelope error.

The mistake affects just 2,500 of the roughly 100,000 early ballots that will be sent to voters, said Hoffman.

The recorder's office mailed letters Tuesday to voters who received the incorrect ballot envelopes. The letters inform voters to follow the return date of Nov. 8 inside the ballot booklet.
