How to check the status of your mail-in ballot

Here are some reasons why you haven't received your ballot.

PHOENIX - We're just two weeks away from the election, yet it's a question we're still hearing from viewers: Where's my ballot? 

At this point, if you're expecting a mail-in ballot in Maricopa County, you should have received one. 

So what does that mean for you if you don't have it? 

Reasons vary person to person, but what Helen Purcell, the Maricopa County Recorder, is noticing is that it usually boils down to a couple of possibilities.

Either you think you are registered for an early ballot for this election, but you are not listed in the system, or your information is incorrect. 

This can due to a variety of reasons. For example, perhaps you moved, changed an address or your name, or simply the recorder's office has the wrong information. 

If your address is off even a digit, that may be stalling your ballot. 

"That sometimes happens," said Purcell. "When there's some digit off on something, even for a home address."

So what can you do to check? 

First, go online to find out the status of your ballot

Or, you can call the recorder's office at (602) 506-1511. 

"We want you to call us with any sort of question, but don't wait because we're soon coming up on that deadline," said Purcell.

The deadline to request an early ballot is October 28. 

The ballots must be received in the office of the County Recorder, other officer in charge of elections, or deposited at a polling place by 7 p.m. November 8.

If you're mailing, the recorder's office recommends you send it back by November 2 to make that deadline. 

Or, you can go to any of the 25 early voting locations and hand deliver it, or cast your vote in person.
