Arizona Republicans sticking with Trump

Democrats respond to GOP Trump support.

PHOENIX - While some Republicans across the country and in Arizona are withdrawing their support for Donald Trump's presidential bid, some Arizona Republicans are sticking with Trump in spite of his widely criticized comments about women.

One of Trump's most visible and outspoken advocates in the state has been Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio said Monday he was not giving up on Trump, though he did not agree with the comments Trump was caught making on tape in 2005.

"I balance that out with all the good things he can do for our country and that's why I stick with him," Arpaio said.

Many Republicans said they would continue supporting Trump because the alternative, Hillary Clinton, was worse.

"If my house was burning down and the fireman was out there cussing and kicking things around and acting disrespectful toward everyone around him, I'd still be glad that he's trying to save my house and my kids," Representative Trent Franks (R-District 8) said. "We have a binary choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and I will suggest to you that the choice is very clear if we want to save this country."

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who's running for Congress in District 1, issued a statement, saying "Obama has released hundreds of dangerous criminals into my County, even convicted illegal murderers. I will vote for Trump over Hillary Clinton any day.
