Is the heat really to blame for the melted things in these photos?

Photos circulating online prompted us to verify whether Phoenix is hot enough to melt street signs.

This week has been hot, even by Phoenix's standards.

We've gotten a few photos of various outdoor items, from street signs to mailboxes to recycling bins, apparently melted by the hot Arizona sun.

The mailbox even went viral on Reddit, racking up 68,432 points as of Friday evening (if that seems like a lot, that's because it is).

We posted a photo of the recycling bin, purportedly melted by the heat, on Facebook Friday afternoon. It turns out that photo was from 2015.

We also reached out to the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department about the Thomas Road street sign that looked like the paint was melting.

Department spokesperson Monica Hernandez said the sign deterioration is linked to a wide range of elements like dust and sun exposure, but it is not specifically heat-related.

Phoenix's street signs are safe from melting.
