Your guide to Veterans Day parades and events around the Valley

Check out what route the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade will take this year and what fun additions you can expect.

Veterans Day is Saturday, and there are plenty of parades and ceremonies to honor our nation’s veterans. Four of those events will feature flyovers of jets from the Luke Air Force Base.

Here’s a roundup of the events going on in the Valley.

Phoenix Veterans Day Parade

The 21st annual Phoenix Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. in uptown Phoenix.

Seven local veterans who served from WWII, to Korea, to Vietnam and the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts will be the grand marshals.

The parade starts at Montebello and Central avenues, runs southbound, turns east on Camelback Road, then turns south on 7th Street and ends at Indian School Road.

The parade ends around 1 p.m., and streets should open up shortly after.

Road restrictions will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 1 to 2 p.m.

Apache Junction Veterans Day Parade

The Apache Junction Veterans Day Parade will start with a flyover from Luke Air Force Base at 9:30 a.m.

The Massing of the Colors ceremony of remembrance will take place shortly before that at 9:15 a.m.

The parade starts from Phelps Drive and heads west on West Apache Trail to South Gold Drive. It will loop back around, heading east on Apache Trail and ending on Phelps Drive.

Avondale Veterans Day

The City of Avondale will be celebrating Veterans Day with a 5K Fun Run, ceremony and Warriors' Breakfast.

Event day registration for the 5K Fun Run is $35. Discounts are available for veterans.

The fun run starts early at 8 a.m. at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale with a "boot camp-style" fun run with obstacles throughout. Boot camp stations include timed sit-ups and push-ups, ammo can lifts, tire flipping and more.

Since it wouldn't be much fun otherwise, you can bypass any and all obstacles if you feel like it.

The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

EMCC Culinary Program students will prepare eggs, pancakes and bacon for the Warriors' Breakfast afterward. The breakfast costs $5 per person, but it's free for veterans and their families with military identification and included with the fun run registration.

More information about the event is available on the city's website.

Glendale Veterans Day Ceremony

Glendale’s annual Veterans Day celebration will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Glendale Public Library Auditorium Saturday.

The event will feature keynote speaker Chief Master Sergeant Randy Kwiatkowski, the 56th Fighter Wing command chief.

Jets from the Luke Air Force Base will perform a flyover at 10:30 a.m.

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary will also be hosting an event afterward at their service office at 8447 N 61st Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
