Woman killed, suspect in custody after Glendale hit-and-run

Officers with the Glendale Police Department arrived on scene just before 6 p.m. after receiving a call about a car hitting a pedestrian. The vehicle had already left the scene.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - A woman is dead after being hit by a car near 56th and Northern avenues Saturday, police said.

Officers with the Glendale Police Department arrived on scene just before 6 p.m. after receiving a call about a car hitting a pedestrian. The vehicle had already left the scene.

Witnesses say the woman hit may have been crossing the street after leaving a nearby Walmart.

Police located the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex and took a man into custody. 

Glendale police vehicular crimes detectives have had Northern Avenue closed from 55th to 59th avenues closed for hours while they conduct the investigation.

Police haven't identified the suspect or the victim yet.

It is unknown if impairment or other factors are involved at this time, police said.
