Thousands attend Phoenix's 21st annual Veterans Day Parade

The city hosted its 21st annual Veterans Day parade.

PHOENIX - More than 45,000 spectators sit down to watch the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade every year.

The parade started in 1997 as a small affair, but over the years has grown into a big event with 14 floats, five live bands, 12 marching bands and four large inflatables.

This year, there were 8 Grand Marshals representing each era of military history spanning from World War II to present day.

Loretta Swit, who is most famous for her role as Major Houlihan on M*A*S*H was also a Grand Marshal. She said her admiration of our nation's heroes came long before her famous role.

"My POWs are the heroes of the world for me. I adore John McCain!  It was long before M*A*S*H to kind of worship the guys who serve and protect us," said Swit.
