School district releases statement on missing Arrowhead teacher after police find remains

Cathryn Gorospe bailed Charlie Malzahn out of Coconino County Jail last Friday. She hasn't been seen since.

‚ÄčThe Deer Valley Unified School District released a statement Saturday morning after Flagstaff Police Department found remains believed to be missing Valley teacher Cathryn Gorospe.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our Arrowhead Teacher Cathryn Gorospe," the statement read.

The release continued to say the community hoped for a different outcome.

"Cathryn’s friends and colleagues at Arrowhead Elementary School and throughout the Deer Valley Unified School District had hoped and prayed for a different outcome."

Flagstaff PD Sgt. Cory Runge said the human remains believed to be Gorospe's were found on rural land outside the limits of Coconino County by Flagstaff PD detectives, with the help of another law enforcement agency, around 5 p.m. Friday.

By Friday night, a positive identification was still pending, according to police.

The 44-year-old Valley teacher was last seen bailing Charlie Malzahn out of Coconino County Jail in Flagstaff last Friday night.

The school district's statement said a district crisis flight team of counselors and psychologists will be at Arrowhead Elementary Monday to provide assistance and support to Gorospe’s students, as well as all Arrowhead students and staff.
