Salt River police fire at driver they say tried to run officer down

Two people arrested after their car broke down during pursuit.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Salt River police say an officer fired shots at a car that tried to run him down overnight Thursday.

The incident happened at the Talking Stick Casino after security approached what they called a suspicious vehicle in the parking garage. That vehicle took off, almost hitting some casino patrons.

Salt River police spotted the vehicle and tried to block it. That is when officers say the driver of the car tried to ram an officer. That officer fired several shots at the car.

The driver clipped another police car while fleeing.

The suspects’ car broke down a short time away near Loop 101 and McKellips Road. A man and woman tried to run away from the car but were arrested.

No injuries were reported.
