Police: Arizona man killed when ATV flips in dry canal

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona authorities say a Peoria man was killed when he attempted to cross a dry canal on an all-terrain vehicle and it flipped onto its side.

Peoria police say 63-year-old Ramon Martinez Rubio Jr. was driving an ATV on Friday afternoon across the canal near Lake Pleasant Parkway and Loop 303 when the accident occurred.

Police say Rubio was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries when he was thrown off the four-wheeled vehicle. He died at the scene.

Police say a dog riding on Rubio's ATV survived the crash.
