Phoenix police identify man shot and killed after ramming patrol cars

PHOENIX - Police have identified the man shot and killed by officers outside an Avondale family store after a police chase Wednesday night.

Phoenix PD said an officer with more than 18 years of service shot 38-year-old Erik Pamias after he rammed police cars with his vehicle, which police determined was reported stolen from California.

According to police, officers tried to stop Pamias on I-17 in Phoenix, but he didn't pull over. Police followed him to Avondale, where he got off the freeway. In a parking lot, they boxed his vehicle in but he rammed his way out, ignoring officer commands.

Police said Pamias drove onto the sidewalk near the Once Upon A Child store, where there were bystanders, including children.

When he kept acting aggressively, the officer shot him.

Officers performed first aid on Paimas until medical personnel arrived and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a passenger was in the front seat during the chase and shooting. She suffered minor injuries in the crash and was released.
