PHOENIX - A 9-year-old boy shot Monday remains on life support and is not expected to survive, according to Phoenix police.
The incident happened near 35th Avenue and Cactus Road in north Phoenix around 3 p.m.
Police have detained the boy's father for questioning about the gun involved in the shooting.
Earlier in the afternoon, fire officials said the shooting was accidental, but police announced Monday evening that they were investigating the death as a homicide.
A police spokesperson said the boy's mother was home at the time along with three other children.
The boy was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition.
