PHOENIX -Police officials said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting Friday night that left a suspect dead.
The shooting happened near 22nd and Adams streets, according to Phoenix PD.
The Phoenix Police Department said officers tried to stop a black Chevy Camaro near 28th and Monroe streets when the male driver fled. In a attempt to lose the police, the suspect drove erratically but lost control of his car, crashing it into a chain-link fence. Then, he put the car in reverse and sped down the street backwards. He lost control again and crashed into a tree, police said.
According to police, the suspect then accelerated back onto the main street and in doing so, crashed into one officer. That officer's foot was broken. Another officer fired his gun to end the potential threat.
The suspect was announced dead on the scene, police said.
Police described the suspect as a male who was 34 years old. The officer who fired the gun is 33 years old and has been with the Phoenix PD for 13 years, officials said.
