Phoenix City Council approves light rail extension

A $50 million construction plan is underway for light rail expansion into the southern part of Phoenix.

PHOENIX - The Phoenix City Council voted Wednesday night to spend $50 million on a plan that would extend light rail into the southern part of the city.

The money will go to design and pre-construction work, which will last about two years.

This project will kick-start a larger $704 million project that will extend the light rail from Central Avenue and Jefferson Street south to Baseline Road.
