Movie about Yarnell Fire premieres in Tempe amid California wildfires

Brendan McDonough talks about the responsibility the crew took to honor the Hotshots and what it meant to collaborate on the film.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - A movie that chronicles a 2013 wildfire that killed 19 Arizona firefighters debuts this month amid another fire tragedy scorching through Northern California.

The film titled "Only the Brave" is based on the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died while fighting a wildfire near Yarnell, Arizona in 2013.

A red carpet premiere for the movie was held Tuesday in Tempe, Arizona. Cast members Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and James Badge Dale attended the premiere with some of firefighters' families. The actors star in the movie with Jennifer Connelly and Jeff Bridges.

Director Joseph Kosinski called it "surreal" to see images from the wildfires in California's wine country that look like shots taken from the film.

Kosinski said actors spent time with the victims' families in person or over the phone.
