Motorcycle rider dies in fiery crash on Loop 101 in Scottsdale

DPS says a truck hit and killed a motorcyclist near Loop 101 and 90th Street Monday morning.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Loop 101 was closed in both directions Monday morning following a deadly crash in Scottsdale.

According to DPS, a pickup truck hit a motorcycle that was stopped on the side of the highway near 90th Street on northbound L-101. The pickup truck caught fire after the collision.

The crash sent debris over the median and struck at least one other vehicle on the southbound side of L-101, DPS said.


The motorcycle rider was found on the southbound side of L-101 after the collision. He was pronounced dead.

According to ADOT, the northbound lanes were closed at 90th Street while the southbound lanes were closed at Shea.

The southbound lanes reopened around noon. The northbound lanes reopened shortly after that.
