Man who killed daughters, self in murder-suicide identified

Father had an order of protection filed prior to murders.

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department has identified 36-year-old Jerad Joseph Arismendez as the shooter who took the lives of his 5- and 4-year-old daughters before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators say they found the bodies of Audrey and Ariah Arismendez near their father inside a bedroom in their Tolleson home. Officers responded to the home after receiving a 911 call reporting shots fired.

A second phone call from a woman identified as the mother of the children, who does not live at the residence, also followed requesting a welfare check on the home.

Police are still investigating the motive in the crime.

Court documents detail an order of protection filed by the woman in June against Arismendez -- claiming her husband placed her in a choke hold and would not let her leave the home with their daughters. The woman also alleges Arismendez would not allow her to use a phone to call for help and threatened harm if she tried to leave because he "couldn't live without us".

The paperwork also details claims that Arismendez harassed his wife by constantly calling and driving by her Avondale home demanding she come out. The woman wrote in the documents, "I fear for my safety as he has violent tendencies."

The girls are the younger siblings of local boxer Ariel Arismendez and the family is currently fundraising for the children's funerals with a GoFundMe account.
