Man dies after falling 20 feet into pit at Phoenix manufacturing plant

Phoenix fire officials changed the incident from a rescue to a recovery operation.

PHOENIX - Fire crews were called to the scene of a confined space rescue Wednesday morning. But shortly after unites arrived at the scene, the rescue changed to a recovery operation.

The man fell into a 20-foot pit at Sapa Extrusions Incorporated near51st Avenue and Jefferson Street. Officials could not confirm whether the man was an employee or not.

Officials said Phoenix fire crews including haz-mat and technical rescue specialists responded to the business. Units from Avondale were also on scene.
