Leashed dogfight leads to man, dog being shot at Phoenix event

A man shot his gun to break up a dog fight at Turf Paradise flea market. One dog was injured, according to police.

Someone tried to stop a fight between two dogs with a bullet Friday at a vintage merchandise event in Phoenix, injuring a dog and a man.

According to organizers for the Front Porch Pickins event in the Turf Paradise parking lot, the shooter was a spectator at the event. Police said the shooter owned one of the dogs involved.

Organizers said both dogs were leashed when the incident occurred.

Police said the injured man was the owner of the other dog in the fight, while event organizers said he was a volunteer at the event from a dog rescue.

The dog was hit by the bullet, which ricocheted and hit the man in the foot, both police and organizers said.

Both are expected to recover after being transported from the scene.
