PHOENIX - Halloween costumes and decorations are already on store shelves across the Phoenix area. There are witches and goblins, pirates and skeletons hanging on racks from Walmart to Target. Even clothing and construction stores offer Halloween decorations.
Home Depot is typically a store you’d buy a rake or a shovel, maybe some paint or a new barbeque but if you want to spook up your house, there are plenty of options.
The only problem is that one of those decorations has been pulled off of every shelf in Canada after someone complained.
The Scary Peeper peeping window prop is designed to look like a creepy man peering into the window.
“First of all, my reaction to seeing it would be fear,” said Lynda Bloeser, a Halloween enthusiast.
She decorates every year but feels putting something up like that is not keeping with the spirit of Halloween and sends the wrong message.
“In this day and age, I do not think it is appropriate,” said Lynda Bloeser.
The window decoration sells for around $30 and can still be bought at a Home Depot in the U.S. We showed the prop to several people, placing it in the window to see what they thought.
“Oh my God, that is the creepiest thing I have ever seen,” said one man.
Many women calling the scary decoration insensitive and in poor taste.
“Oh, I would be startled if I saw it,” said Monica Goddard.
Ken Baer didn’t think the window creeper was scary but felt many wouldn’t like it.
“I would not say it is inappropriate, I’d just say it is a joke that some would not enjoy,” said Baer.
12 News reached out to Home Depot but was not able to talk with a supervisor. As of now, there are no plans to have it removed from shelves in the U.S.
