Friends mourn Cave Creek man, family lost in Payson flood

Tom Price talked about his friendship with Hector Miquel Garnica and the last time he saw the Garnica family.

CAVE CREEK, Ariz. - Authorities are still searching for 27-year-old Hector Miguel Garnica after his wife, three children and five other extended family members were killed in a massive flash flood near Payson Saturday.

"I'm devastated. I don't even know how to feel at the moment. He was like a little brother to me," said family friend Tom Price. "I talked to his mom this morning and the one thing she said -- she is not leaving Payson until they find her baby."

Garnica and Price spent the last several years as friends and coworkers at several Cave Creek restaurants. Price said the family has been in the Cave Creek area for about 25 years and they're known as hard workers.

Last Wednesday, Price saw Garnica at the gas station with his two young girls.

"Yeah, that's the last time I'll ever see him again," Price said. "He was so excited to go up there to celebrate his wife's birthday."

If you want to donate to the Garnica family, you can do so through a GoFundMe account that Price set up.
