Free dog adoptions at Maricopa County Animal Care all June long

Veterinarian Rick Marrinson and Karen Fling share their tips to keep your pets safe from parasites this year.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is offering several different promotions throughout the month of June, including waived adoption fees and $5 microchipping.

Currently, according to MCACC, there are nearly 1,000 dogs and cats in county shelters. The June promotions and events were planned in preparation of a busy summer, especially with the Fourth of July holiday approaching.

Here are the dates and events to keep in mind:

All month long- For the entire month of June, dogs weighing more than 40 pounds can be adopted at no cost. MCACC said most of the dogs at its shelters are large breeds. The promotion takes place at all MCACC shelters.

June 10 and 11- Adoption fees will be waived for any dog or cat over three months old during this weekend. The promotion takes place at all MCACC shelters.

June 10- At the Phoenix location only, MCACC will host a $5 microchip event from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Free ID tags will also be provided to owned pets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.

In addition to the above promotions, MCACC will also be partnering with a charity that takes dogs from high-intake shelters and brings them to no-kill, open-admission shelters. On June 9, 80 dogs from county shelters will board a private flight to a rescue shelter in Pennsylvania.

MCACC is hoping that these promotions will help make room in their shelters, while also finding homeless pets homes and preventing owned pets from being lost.
