Food City Tamale Festival takes over downtown Phoenix this weekend

Tamales are taking over downtown Phoenix on Dec. 8 - 9.

PHOENIX – Arizona’s best tamale maker, Food City, is hosting the 16th annual Tamale Festival in downtown.
 
The food festival is free and open to the general public. Many families will make homemade tamales for the holiday season.
 
Thousands are expected to attend and sell their homemade tamales. Last year, more than 700 were sold.

This year's festival will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cesar Chavez Plaza.
 
The third place winner will receive a 32” TV, a Coach purse, a tamale pot, three kitchen appliances and a $75 Food City gift card.
 
Second place will receive a dining room set, 32” TV, a Coach purse, a tamale pot, five kitchen appliances and a $75 Food City gift card.
 
First place with receive a living room set, 40” TV with surround sound, a Coach purse, a tamale pot, seven kitchen appliances and a $150 Food City gift card.
 
Santa Claus, live bands and carnival rides will also be at the event.
