Deadline soon: Apply to design art for south Phoenix light rail stops

A $50 million construction plan is underway for light rail expansion into the southern part of Phoenix.

PHOENIX - Valley Metro is looking for experienced and emerging artists to work on art for future light rail stops in south Phoenix.

The deadline for artists to apply for the project is Wednesday, June 28 at  3 p.m.

The South Phoenix extension will run along First and Central avenues, from Washington Street to Baseline Road.

There are eight station platforms, a park-and-ride, and five traction power substations that will be improved with commissioned public art. Read more here.

Budgets for light rail stops is $260,000 each. The budget for the Baseline Park and Ride is $350,000.

The City of Phoenix approved the $50 million project in April 2017.
