PHOENIX - The Drug Enforcement Agency in Arizona announced a major drug bust involving several gang members.
More than 20 people were indicted and six were arrested in the 18-month investigation. Several of the suspects are members of the Mexican Mafia and have connections to the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.
"These Mexican mafia guys are major gang members," said DEA Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman.
The operation involved the trafficking of meth, heroin, marijuana and guns. Agents say the drug traffickers were using several houses in the West Valley to stash and re-package the drugs.
"We know for sure they trafficked 100 pounds of meth and 10 kilos of heroin," said Coleman.
Veronica Romero lives next to one of the stash houses.
"It's scary to have neighbors and not know what (they are doing) next door," said Romero.
Agents say the drugs were being shipped to at least six other states around the country.
Those arrested face multiple felonies including drug trafficking, money laundering and weapons charges.
