Car hits pole knocking out power for nearly 4,300 APS customers in Phoenix

Over 4,000 APS customers had their electricity restored after a car hit a power pole near 3rd Avenue and Fillmore Street in Phoenix.

PHOENIX - APS said power has been restored to all but 193 customers after parts of downtown and central Phoenix were affected by a power outage.

Initially, an estimated 4,247 customers were without power Monday morning after a car ran into a pole near 3rd Avenue and Fillmore Street. A service crew was sent out to fix the interruption to a major power line.

The area affected was from Palm Ln. to Washington St. and from 19th Ave. to 5th St.

Arizona State University police said the downtown campus' gym, the Sun Devil Fitness Center, had no power and that classes and activities had been canceled until further notice.
