Birdie Bus' roams Phoenix area to give rescued parrots forever homes

GILBERT, Ariz. - If you’re looking to adopt a new pet, you’re in luck. The “Birdie Bus” could be coming to a neighborhood near you.

Ginger Duplisse is the president of Ginger’s Parrot Rescue in Gilbert.

“A lot of people don’t even realize that there is such a thing as a bird rescue,” she said. “They don’t realize that parrots need homes, just as dogs and cats do.”

She said people don’t know about bird rescues because they may not know that owners relinquish their pet parrots.

“They don’t understand that parrots are given up. And where are they given up if they are? Do they just drop them off at the Humane Society?” she said. “They don’t really understand that there are organizations that specialize in parrots just like a dog or a cat rescue.”

The bus also gives the birds a chance to socialize and get to know people, who may come to realize they’re bird lovers at heart.
