Apartment fire leaves more than 10 displaced in north Phoenix

Five people were transported and over 10 displaced due to an apartment complex fire.

PHOENIX - Five people were transported to the hospital and at least 10 were displaced after an apartment complex caught fire in north Phoenix Saturday morning.

More than 80 firefighters responded to an apartment complex fire around 3:30 a.m. near 7th Street and Bell Road.

The complex had a total of 16 units. Half of the eight apartments on the second floor were destroyed, and the other four had water damage due the fire fight.

Five people were transported to the hospital; two women,18 and 21 years old and three men, two 20-year-olds and and one 21-year-old, a Phoenix fire spokesperson said.

Additionally, an 85-year-old woman was treated but not taken to the hospital.

Several people suffered smoke inhalation. Fire officials said between 10-15 people were displaced. 

No firefighters were injured, the fire spokesperson said.

The fire is under investigation.
