Active military member facing charges in road-rage shooting on L-101

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is facing charges after he allegedly shot a driver in a road-rage incident on a Phoenix-area freeway.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say 24-year-old Arturo Pena, who is on active duty in the U.S. Army, was arrested after the incident early Saturday on the Loop 101.

Bond was set at $50,000 at Pena's initial court appearance Sunday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Pena told authorities he fired one shot at the driver of a sports car to scare him. He was driving with his girlfriend in the car.

The other driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of a neck wound. His name hasn't been released.

Investigators interviewed the drivers who both said they were cut off by the other.

DPS troopers and Peoria police arrested Pena after he exited the freeway and stopped at a shopping center.

Authorities say Pena is jailed on suspicion of drive-by shooting, endangerment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
