3 dead, 2-year-old in serious condition after Phoenix crash

Phoenix fire and medical personnel extricated two adults and two children from a sedan after it crashed into a full-size truck Thursday afternoon.

Nickole Lambert, 25, who was the front passenger in the car, has been pronounced dead, officials said.

First responders transported the 34-year-old driver, identified as Reshad Lewis, and an 8-year-old girl, Shihada Lewis, to a hospital in extremely critical condition. Both the man and the girl died from their injuries.

A 2-year-old boy, who was properly restrained in a child safety seat in the car, was taken to the hospital. He is in serious but stable condition. Police said he is expected to survive.

The 49-year-old driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and remained on scene to speak with police. Officers said he was not impaired.

Investigators said the driver of the passenger car had a medical history, and it's possible he was having a medical event at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
