1 in custody after 16-year-old shot in the ankle in south Phoenix

PHOENIX - A 16-year-old boy is in stable condition after he was shot in the ankle Sunday, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. 

Police said a person tried to rob the teenager just after 4 p.m. near Baseline Road and 35th Avenue. The suspect fired a shot that struck the 16-year-old and one other person before fleeing the scene, police said. 

The suspect has since been taken into custody, according to police.

Both victims' injuries were not life threatening.
