Highway to the Grand Canyon's North Rim closed for winter

One man sent his girlfriend over the moon with a proposal during eclipse at the Grand Canyon.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced Tuesday the 43-mile highway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed for the winter.

ADOT said State Route 67 is expected to reopen along with North Rim lodges, campground and other facilities, also closed for the winter, in May.

"When a highway is closed in snow country, be careful not to follow suggestions from a GPS or smartphone navigation app that would take you down an unpaved, unplowed road," ADOT wrote in a blog post. "That can lead to you getting stranded in a remote area."

The South Rim remains open all year.
