Goodwin Fire spreads, evacuations in effect

The Goodwin Fire has spread to 481 acres.

Prescott National Forest firefighters responded to a forest fire about 14 miles south of Prescott Saturday around 4 p.m.

As a precaution, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office asked the community of Pine Flat to evacuate. For more information on the evacuation, you are asked to call 928-771-3321.

The fire is zero percent contained. Fire crews today worked on constructing fire lines with the use of air support, officials said.

Incident crews are asking the public to stay clear of Senator Highway and County Road 177.

The American Red Cross of Northern Arizona has opened a shelter at Mayer High School, located at 17300 E. Mule Deer Drive in Mayer.

The shelter is providing lodging, snacks, water and a respite from the smoke and heat.

Officials originally said the fire was burning 1,000 acres.
