Goodwin Fire at 27,541 acres, 75 percent contained

Crews continue to make solid progress on the Goodwin Fire, which is 75 percent contained as of Sunday evening.

The Goodwin Fire, which has burned more than 27,000 acres in Yavapai County, is 75 percent contained as of Sunday.

Authorities said the fire could be fully contained by Tuesday, July 4.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the evacuations for the Walker and Potato Patch areas will remain in place Sunday because of backburning operations. Those evacuations could potentially be lifted Monday, the sheriff's office said.

Evacuations have already been lifted for some areas as crews mop up where the fire burned along Highway 69. As of Saturday morning, evacuation orders were lifted for Blue Hills, Upper Blue Hills, Dewey/Humboldt and all areas west of Highway 69 south to milepost 280.

Firefighters said they feel they have a good handle on the southern end of the fire. The highest spread potential is to the north and northwest, as the fire can respond to terrain, available fuels and wind.
