Ducey declares state of emergency on Arizona wildfires

Friday afternoon, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency in Arizona due to the state's recent wildfires.

The move, announced in a release, "authorizes $200,000 of emergency funds and requested that the State Emergency Council ... provide the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management additional resources as needed."

Ducey cited information that the state had seen more than a dozen large wildfires since April, adding that they were aided by high temperatures, winds and available fuels.

Just Thursday, a brush fire burned 1,200 acres in north Phoenix and shut down parts of four freeways.
