Cochise County Jail inmate dies after he was found unresponsive in cell

BISBEE, Ariz. - An inmate at a jail in Bisbee became unconscious and unresponsive in his cell and was pronounced dead later at the hospital on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Derrick Joe Worcester, 35, was booked into the Cochise County Jail on Tuesday night by the Tombstone Marshals Office on charges of car theft, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thursday morning Worcester was checked by medical personal in the jail because he was felt nausea the night before, CCSO said.

At around 9:44 a.m. he was found unresponsive in his cell.

After the medical staff assisted Worcester, he was transported to the Copper Queen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.

The autopsy and cause of death is pending and the investigation is ongoing.
