Campgrounds, trails closed and restrictions in place as Goodwin Fire burns

Fire officials addressed the media and gave closure updates due to the Goodwin Fire near Prescott.

With the start of the Fourth of July weekend just a couple days away, the Goodwin Fire has forced forest officials to close campground, trails and implement fire restrictions.

"We understand this busy weekend coming up, the economic impacts that we're having on the community with the rodeo, the parades and all the tourism," Debbie Maneely, public affairs officers for the Prescott National Forest, said. "We are really trying to be sensitive as we implement further closures and restrictions across the forest."

Maneely said the closure affects the Bradshaw Ranger District, roughly from the White Spar Campground near Highway 89A to the border of Mayer.

"As this fire moves and it's unpredictable we've decided to implement this closure," Maneely said. "We are doing a closure order in there to allow safe travel for all those involved in the fire."

Maneely said all campground and trails within that area of Bradshaw Ranger District are closed.

The closure ends just south of the fire and the community of Crown King will remain open, Maneely said.

Forest officials will also be implementing a Stage 2 fire restrictions Friday, June 30, meaning, Maneely said, "no open flame anywhere on Prescott National Forest land."

The Prescott Frontier Days rodeo and parade are schedule to go on as planned. Visitors from Phoenix cannot get to Prescott via SR-69. Instead take  I-17 to SR 169 or going through Wickenburg on State Route 89.

"As members of the community and the public, we need to do our part in preventing wildfires," Maneely said.
