Burro Fire near Tucson closes Redington Road

The Burro Fire has caused evacuations on Mt. Lemmon south of the Palisades area.

TUCSON - Evacuations are underway on Mt. Lemmon south of the Palisades area, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. 

The Burro fire burning in Redington Pass has closed Redington Road from milepost two to milepost 14, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. 

As of 1:25 p.m. on Sunday, Catalina Highway is closed to residents, employees and the public at the base of Mt. Lemmon to milepost 20.

The fire grew Saturday night and early Sunday morning burning 5,000 acres.

Reports say the fire is spreading at a moderate to high speed and is expected to increase from a type 3 Incident to a type 1 Incident.

Ground crews and aerial crews are working to contain the fire.

No structures are in danger and the fire is moving east. 

It was spotted at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at milepost 7.
